Forsyth is a city and the county seat of Monroe County, Georgia. The city covers 13 square kilometers, according to the US Census Bureau. This city is home to 3,993 people. The population density is 120.9 people per square kilometer. Forsyth lies in the Macon Metropolitan Statistical Area.
The city of Forsyth came into being in 1823. The transition of Forsyth from Johnsonville also took place in the same year. This city was named after John Forsyth, who governed Georgia from 1827 to 1829. He was also the Secretary Of State under Presidents Martin Van Buren and Andrew Jackson.
The city has numerous tourist attractions and historical places. The most famous historical sites are the Courthouse Square, which is a prominent example of the 19th century architecture. It is also home to the famous Tift College and the Confederate Cemetery.
